style files: break the rules in 2016-pattern mixing

Welcome to another styling series of happylittleshoppingsecret! Last time we talked about basics! This time I’m putting the knowledge to the test. Remember our staple of stripes? That makes it a perfect pattern to pair with our pal, plaid. Stripes also go well with animal prints and it’s fraternal twin sister, dots.

As seen below, I like to pair plaid and stripes with a neutral base, such as black or original blue jeans. I have also paired it with army green jeans, which can be darling! There are several ways to keep it classy and not tacky. Just remember that a vital part of style is attitude and if you don’t love it, don’t do it. Take baby steps first, try pairing a different print accessory like I did here!

Pattern mixing has been around for awhile, so give it a try. I always start to laugh when talking to my mom because she is still trying to understand it, but I seriously love it. This is just a basic way I did it. I even have two plaids in these photos (on the cuff of my coat and my scarf!)

This concludes our styling session for today. I’m knee deep in internship things and getting ready for the beginning of my semester tomorrow. Enjoy your evening and don’t forget to take risks in your style! Ps.. if you want a good deal, check out Urban Outfitters “In the Bag Sale”! It’s like aamaaazzzzzing. I know sometimes they have the weirdest clothes ever, but they also have really cute things ever! So check that out.

Have a good one, my friends.

happy shopping,

Cortney
